This is the cutest thing ever...I have seen two babies so far, they were in different spots I think it would be incredible to have them all together for a family portrait, so I'll keep my eye out for them all. I haven't seen the mother today, she may be with other babies or just out of sight. At first I had thought this was the female, but then soon realized it was just a baby. They shake and quiver the little bodies when he come with some seed. They make a very distinctive little cry too, so I know when they are close by. This happened during our lunch today...I almost burnt my grilled cheese, had to postpone eating too, but worth it...to get these...
.
Wow! :0 !! Worth burning the grilled cheese in my opinion! That baby looks bigger than his daddy. That seems to happen a lot...boys getting bigger than their daddy. And feeding those growing youngsters is sure a chore. Great pics. Best wishes on the family portrait.
ReplyDeleteFunny story you might enjoy. We have a pie cherry tree that is really just a big bird feeder. The fruit is always gone before it is ripe. So I'm walking across the lawn toward the tree and a mom robin has a cherry on the ground with a hungry kid beside her. She is trying to get the pit out of the fruit for the kid. He is standing there with his mouth open. Mom sees me, trys in vain to remove the pit. Finally shoves the cherry down the kid seed and all. Kid stands there with his mouth open and this huge cherry in his throat. Hops around. Finally swallows it and they both fly away. Hope the little guy didn't get a belly ache from that one!
ReplyDeleteif the little guy didn't get a belly ache from that pit, I'm sure he had a bit of discomfort when he pooped it out :-)
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question about fish bait. I am no expert, but my hubby brings home large trout quite consistently all year around. (Yes, he fishes through the ice, and they are the best flavored fish.) Some of his success must come from experience. He knows when and where to go. But he has a whole tackle box full of lures and takes live worms and "power bait" as well. The challenge of the "sport" seems to be finding what the fish like at that moment.
